One tradition centres on the festive tree with gifts beneath it, garlands, and a palette of sparkling gold and silver with stars and snowflakes. The other follows Chinese custom — fireworks, incense, and new clothes deliberately bought in bright red or gold.
Both are decorated as well as dressed, so the palace setting is part of each build. That is what makes the comparison land: an outfit is judged against the room it stands in, and the two rooms are as different as the two wardrobes.
